Lucky Me! I had a chance to tatse Spencer's Easter Brisket and it was wonderful! I am going to try it out this weekend. Yes, it was just that "Ultimate".

What an honoring debrief on your experience Spencer. I'm sure Len stands with the communion of saints looking upon us with great gladness as he sees your reflections. Truly - life is a gift and it is so great when we receive the bounty each person has to offer. I've been struck recently by how we don't tend to spend much time with "elders" or older people in our society -but rather send them off to "homes". Yet, amidst those thoughts, it's fun to read of the blessing for you in relating to Len - not that he was very old, but his life experience was rich.

Our trip was amazing. Like you, I was very sad that it's over but very glad that I went. I think you were on the Dec 11 Orlova and I was on the Dec 11 Ocean Nova. In the morning on Dec 11, I met two girls from HK who were going on Orlova as well.

We actually almost signed up for Orlova.

Ah, one more thing we brought but didn't use--hand warmers. Should have used them while kayaking.

Hi! I also brought a tripod, but only used it for taking a video recording of my polar plunge. My excuse was that I didn't want to clean off all the penguin guano. :-)

I randomly stumbled upon your blog because I also just came back from a Quark expedition. I agree with all your points. I wished I had a dry bag for my DSLR. I brought my tripod but never used it (too lazy to set up the tripod on uneven snow). Also brought but not used was our hiking poles, they would have been useful when we had to hike in the blizzard.

I'm roasting tomatoes right now for another soup recipe. And....

I learned that you can pull up your tomato plants and hang them upside down in the garage. The green tomatoes will ripen and turn red over the next few weeks. I was skeptical, but it works like a charm!

Looks great Spencer! I decided to start with containers on the porch this year instead of the full-on boxes. But then our weather (late season frosts) means we actually won't start planting until this weekend.

I do love the local eggs though. Now that we've been eating those muti-colored shells for a while, I can't bring myself to buy the white ones in the store!
